Treia Tourism

Located in Piazza della Repubblica, this church dates back to 1766-1773 and was built by architect Carlo Augustoni. Currently the church is being restored and will house a Diocesan Museum.

Porta Vallesacco is one of the seven Medieval gates that, in the past, gave access to the town of Treia. There an important historical event occurred in 1263: the inhabitants of Montecchio (Treia’s Medieval name) captured Corrado d’Antiochia and his barons, so avoiding a siege.

The interior is pure Baroque style and keeps the statue of Our Lady of Loreto, made from cedar of Lebanon wood and they say carved by St. Luke himself. Tradition has it that the statue of the Virgin is a statue originally venerated in Loreto and that a new exchange after the return of the statue by the French never happened. The bell tower is peculiar.

The prevailing style of this church is Romanesque, mixed with some Gothic elements. It features a square apse and three naves divided by pilasters on which stand Gothic large arches. Narrow and pointed windows are on the walls.

This church is located in the centre of the town. It had been built in the 13th century and named in honour of St. Francis in 1300.

The building of this church took more than thirty years from 1782 to 1814. It was designed by the Rome born architect Andrea Vici, pupil of Vanvitelli. It is considered one of the most impressive and architectonically purest churches in the Marche region.

This is the very centre of the town of Treia. It is surrounded by a high balustrade, designed by Andrea Vici, and offers a breathtaking view that sinks in a vast horizon of fields and rolling hills.

This early XXth century sanctuary was built by Cesare Bazzani on the ruins of an earlier church. Inside are a sixteenth century fresco (Umbrian school of painting) representing St. Sebastian and, above the altar, a 16th century Crucifix.

This tower is located in the town area known as Onglavina (hence the name of the tower). A walk along the sandstone spur where the Tower of Onglavina is located in highly recommended: here the view is breathtaking overlookin the valley below and stretching from the Sibillini Mountains to the Maiella, Mt. Gran Sasso, Mt. Conero, rolling green hills, slopes and valley and, then, sinking into the Adriatic Sea.
